The new Nursery building of GE Oil & Gas – Nuovo Pignone will have an ogival shape, with a large internal courtyard. On the ground floor, there will be a nursery school, whereas the two upper floors will host offices and the large roof terrace. The project is based on energy saving by integrating architecture and natural elements. The exterior of the building will be wrapped in a skin of vegetation to achieve high energy containment during the summer. The façade will be partially covered in Porcelain Berry, which will grow out on forged metal branches in order to allow a natural spread. During the spring and summer periods, the curtain walls of the building will be protected from solar radiation by the green leaves. In the autumn time, the leaves will fall, colouring the building in red and enhancing the maximum sun radiation, thus mitigating the internal temperature and reducing the need of artificial lighting. In the winter months, the building will get the most artistic appearance, since the metal branches supporting the Porcelain Berry will become visible.
